An exploration of nihilism in the realm of physical media, and the move to intangible media in the cloud.
The installation consists of 59 repurposed audio CDs, 39 CD storage boxes, 1 cassette tape, 1 cassette tape polybox, mono-filament wire, and a looping audio track. 3.65m x 3.65m installation space.
The artists intend for the viewer to experience this installation, by slowly entering the room, listening to the audio, and gazing from left to right while imaging the physical items existing in a purely electronic digital state. Next, contemplate the empty cloud, scrutinize every part of it. Does anything seem out of place?
Signifying Nothing is a collaborative work by the three current artists of The Committee for Art Excellence in the Office (TCAEO), plus a guest acoustic artist. This is the seventh major installation by TCAEO, and the first in this installation space.
