Oh Bother, 2025
The Committee for Art Excellence in the Office
Formed September 2012 | Active in the United States
This mixed-media installation comprises five repurposed mobile flip-phones, four upcycled shirts, 301 blue and yellow silicone bands – some not immediately visible, obscured bent metal joiners, and monofilament wire.
The work draws conceptual inspiration from the phrases “Oh Bother,” “Shaka Laka,” and “What’s going on?”—expressions that frame the piece’s commentary on technological obsolescence, personal expression, collective uncertainty, and the utterances of a Customer Data Specialist.
Oh Bother, represents the fourteenth major installation by The Committee for Art Excellence in the Office (TCAEO) and the first presented within this installation space. Created collaboratively by a current TCAEO artist and an apprentice, the work continues the group’s tradition of transforming everyday objects into reflective, provocative art.
